![]() ![]() Emperor Bing was protected by the eight mountain peaks that surrounded the area, so decided to call it "Eight Dragons", since it was believed that a dragon resides in each mountain. A legend states that when Emperor Bing was pursued by the Mongol leader, Kublai Khan in 1276, he sought refuge in the area that makes up modern day Hong Kong. The nine dragons are the eight mountains of Hong Kong and Chinese Emperor Bing of the Sung Dynasty. In Cantonese, "Kowloon", the mainland part of the city of Kong Hong, means "nine dragons".
